Essential Free Help for Second Life Startups

Textures
Avatar Texture Templates – These are more detailed than the ones provided by Linden Labs. It’s a must for skin and clothing creation.
Texture Alignment Patterns – This is a must if you are doing any sort of texture work on objects.
Vending Machines
I recommend using the built-in “buy” property instead of using vendor scripts whenever possible. It is more reliable and easier to understand by most users. However, there are times when prim count is limited and you have to use multi-item vendors. Just remember to read the instructions carefully.
Multi-Item Vendor – This vendor is fairly easy to setup. It also have some advance features like profit splitting.
DT Vendor v3.2.1 Simple Lite – This one is has more options than the previous one but require a bit more reading before setting up as well. It has a “More Information” button.
Holo Vendor – Fully editable holographic vendor. This is great for previewing your creations in 3D. Not many vendor places allow holo vendors. Be sure to double check with your landlord before using this.
Tools
Linked Prim Animator Lite – This is an open sourced tool for making objects in Second Life move. It is similar to my own Prim Puppeteer tool minus some sexy features.
“Ez” Particle Editor – If you ever need to work with particles, this is a handy little generator. You can play with the settings visually instead of tweaking with the scripts.
Guides
LSLwiki.net & LSL Portal- Must have resources for scripters. LSLwiki’s library section even contains a number of useful ready-to-use scripts.
Building Guides from Mermaid Diaries & Creation Portal- Both sites contain a fairly comprehensive list of how-tos and guides.
Software
Free Sculpted Prim Software List – When you’ve mastered the basic prims and want to create more organic looking objects, this is the place to start. It also lists commercial software that supports Second Life sculpties. Personally, I started with Wings3D(free) and are currently using Hexagon(not free).

The site doesn’t seem to work for me Johnny. Wonder if it’s down.
Update: Thanks, it must have been a temporary thing.
strange. works for me.
LSLeditor.org works for me, too, and I’ve used it. Definitely a huge help!
How can I bring my “real world” web business, no brick and mortar, to “virtual worlds”? I don’t have the time to operate both. I’d like to hire a virtual world expert. Any advice? Thanks, Steven
Hi steven. I would advise you to think about end result you want to accomplish for bringing in your real word web business into Second Life. The environment is very different. A lot of big name companies such as Sony and Nissan have tried to created a virtual presence for virtual presence sake and ultimately did not get their desired marketing effect and left.
As for looking for professional help. You can probably check out http://www.getvio.com/ or http://millionsofus.com/
